Travel Guide: Lanzarote, Spain

With Esperanza Perelló

Making up part of the beautiful Canary Islands of Spain, Lanzarote is famous for its year-round warm weather & out of this world volcanic landscape. We joined Spanish photographer, Esperanza Perelló, on her latest trip to the island ~ exploring her favourite place to stay, shop, and eat.

Pack your suitcase (with the essentials) and plan your European summer with a stop on this other-worldly island.

Tell us, who you are, what you do?

My name is Esperanza. I was born and raised in Mallorca. The same island that inspires me every day which I can see reflected in my work. I am a photographer, working mainly for brands but I also love travel photography and being able to capture the essence of each place I visit.

We want to explore Lanzarote this summer:

Best place to stay?

I highly recommend Buenavista Lanzarote Country Suites, located in the heart of La Geria, an area of vineyards in volcanic soil. An oasis in the middle of nature with breathtaking views.

Where do we go for a good coffee, and what is your coffee order?

Esquina Teguise, they have excellent coffee and delicious plant-based food options. I like to start my day with an oat milk latte.

We want to get active, where do we go to move your body?

Lanzarote is a perfect island for surfing and one of the best places to practice is at Famara beach

Best spot for an ocean dip?

Papagayo or Famara beach. But save time on your trip to visit the island of La Graciosa and enjoy its unspoilt beaches.

Your lunch spot of choice?

Go to El Golfo and enjoy fresh fish or seafood at one of the beachfront restaurants. And don't forget to order papas arrugadas with mojo verde.

Cocktail bar or drink spot of choice?

La Cueva de Lagomar.

Where to shop?

The village of Teguise is the best option if you want to buy some local product. If you have the opportunity to go on a Sunday you will be able to visit the market.

Must-try dinner, with a view?

Be Papagayo in Papagayo beach, a beach bar where you can enjoy local food overlooking the sea and the best spot to view the sunset.

Any other must visit spots on the Island?

Visit, Architect & Sculptor, Cesar Manrique's work - visit la Casa Museo, los Jameos del Agua and el Mirador del Rio (from where you have a view over the island of la Graciosa). Don't miss a visit to the green lake in el Golfo area and Casa Museo del Campesino.

Your go-to beach to bar outfit for your vacations?

Crochet top or bikini top and a sarong

And tell us, what are your non-negotiable travel rituals?

I don't go anywhere without my skin care products, my body oil and my solid shampoo.
